CASTELLO CAETANI
CASTELLO CAETANI ( Castani Castle) Around the middle of XIII century, the Annibaldi built an extremely strong Rocca, not as strong as the actual one, but with strategic importance because it was close to the Via Appia and Tirreno Sea. The court of the Rocca was the actual Piazza d’Armi, in which a cistern was dug to receive the rain. Elegant mullioned window decorated with marble columns, lit up rooms with frescos. The imposing “maschio” 42b meters high and the “maschietto” or “controtorre”, are the only remains well conserved of the primitive Rocca degli Annibaldi. In the court a church, San Pietro in Corte was built and was destroyed during the Borgia in 1500, with no respect for the corpses of the Caenai.
